Traditional Chinese Medicine can successfully
treat a wide range of both physical and emotional disorders.
Increasingly popular, its practitioners see the disease process
in a holistic way, focused on an individual’s unique symptomology
influenced by body constitution, lifestyle factors, and mental and
emotional states.Developed over thousands of years in China, TCM is
a time-tested and clinically-proven therapy.
Though it may seem mysterious to those uninitiated, it is in fact a

Treatments can be very soothing and relaxing!
An acupuncture treatment is usually a pleasant
and deeply relaxing experience. Endorphins, your body’s natural
opiates, are released when treatment is performed, and create
profound relaxation for many.
TCM is based on an energetic model of the human being.
This energy is called “qi,” (pronounced “chee”).
Acupuncture treatments often serve to initiate you into the
perception of your qi, as it moves and soothes you during a treatment.
This can be a unique and interesting experience.

Getting acupuncture is NOT like getting a shot!
Many people, when contemplating acupuncture, associate needles
and the sensations they create, with those experienced when getting a shot or
having a blood draw. Acupuncture is nothing like those experiences!
Acupuncture needles are so thin, two or three can fit inside a hypodermic needle.
Every effort is made to keep treatment gentle and pain free.
All needles used at the clinic are one use, sterile, disposable needles.

You can understand how it works!
There is currently a great deal of research being done
explaining the physiological effects of acupuncture and Chinese herbs.
This is very exciting and can fill in a lot of gaps of understanding
about how TCM works. On a basic level, we can understand how it works
through its traditional explanation.
Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on an energetic model of the human being.
Think of the energy in our bodies as a moving, fluid-like substance
that mediates physiological function by nourishing and maintaining
our organs, glands, and other tissues. When movement is smooth and
uninterrupted, these tissues are nourished and more likely to function
efficiently. When there is an interruption in the flow, like a kink in
a hose, organs and tissues are cut off from this support and will perform
inefficiently, sometimes to the point of illness and disease.
Lifestyle factors, genetics, trauma, and daily stress contribute to
this lack of movement. TCM works to identify and correct obstructions
of energy, and contributes to our greater health and contentment.

How many treatments will you need?
Most people begin treatment to receive relief
from pain, discomfort, or other symptoms.
This is acute care.
How quickly symptoms improve is dependent on
the nature of your condition, how chronic it has become,
and the general state of your health.
Generally the acute care phase will require at least a few treatments,
scheduled weekly or sometimes biweekly, depending on the
symptom’s severity. (Although for colds and flu and
acute minor injuries, one treatment is often enough.)
Each treatment builds on previous treatments,
and often you will start to feel better relatively quickly.
To go further toward reclaiming your health,
continued care is recommended. This helps support
the changes you have made by continuing to address
the root causes of your concern and to keep your symptoms
from coming back. Deeper and more lasting healing occurs
during this phase. Treatment need be less often at this point,
and should go along with herbal therapy and a healthy diet and lifestyle

For almost 14 years, Beth Moose has kept me healthy. Now I'm 65, still overweight, somewhat arthritic. I sit much too often, exercise much too little, and yet I hardly ever catch a cold. When I do come down with a bug, it passes quickly because my system is strong enough to throw it off. When last tested, my bones have even gotten stronger! Being cared for by Beth makes my body work better and feel better. A visit to Balcones Acupuncture Clinic is far lovelier than any luxury spa treatment, not as expensive, and affects real and lasting change.
When I first started acupuncture treatments in my 40s, I felt sick most of the time and needed one or more treatments every week. Then for years I settled into a routine of a treatment every three weeks. Now I come as needed, sometimes once a week for three or four visits in allergy season and sometimes only two or three times a year. I've moved out of Austin and have to drive 60 miles each way to see Beth, but it's worth every drop of gas and every frustrating minute in Austin traffic. Beth and Balcones Acupuncture Clinic are a great treasure I cannot live without.
